Indie Philanthropy is a movement of funders who creatively disrupt the status quo of funding.
Indie Philanthropists look closely not just at WHAT gets funded, but also WHO makes decisions and HOW funding is done. We care about philanthropic culture–and want the WAY we give to mirror the healthier world we know is possible.

On the growing edges of the social justice and systemic change philanthropy sector, many of us are funding people and groups that are often overlooked by mainstream funders. These risk-takers are shifting our culture, our institutions and our planet toward bold, vibrant solutions. To drive experimentation, we embrace unconventional tools to support emerging visionaries and welcome ‘failure’ as part of learning.

The Indie Philanthropy Initiative is a network and a home for this movement. We tell the stories of philanthropists that are pushing the boundaries of systemic change. We synthesize lessons from these stories in order to share tools that can be used by people who want to learn how to join this movement of the most progressive funders.  All this is done through our programs and our consulting.



While more than half of our budget is met through earned income from contracts and collaborations, private donations are the essential glue of IPI. We aim to raise $10,000 by Dec 31 to be able to launch 2019 at full speed. The generous support we receive is what fuels our ability to be responsive to requests from the field, broaden the reach of IPI consulting offerings, update our online resources, and continue to be a voice for change in the philanthropic sector.

  • Reaching a broad spectrum of emerging Indie Philanthropists through our workshops and trainings.
  • Broadening our consulting offerings to allow IPI's expertise to inform and support values-aligned giving.
  • Allowing IPI staff to attend essential conferences, gatherings and trainings to share our resources and build a stronger network.
  • Keeping our website updated with new stories and useful resources so that we can all benefit from the disruption of status quo funding.

Is my donation and credit card info secure?
Yes, the security and confidentiality of your information is our highest priority. We will not sell, trade or share your personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, and we will only share personal information if you have given us specific permission to do so.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, we are a fiscally sponsored project of Social Good Fund, which is a public 501c3 organization recognized by the IRS. Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent permissible by law.

How do I know that my donation was made successfully?
You will receive an emailed receipt immediately after your donation is submitted and your credit card is processed. Your donation will also show up on your bank or card statement within 1-3 business days.

Do I get a receipt?
Yes, a receipt is sent to your email inbox once your donation is processed. Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes. If you select a recurring donation, you will be sent an individual receipt each period when your donation is processed.

Is my donation private?
We will not share or sell a donor's personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
